The Jimmy Cafe and Bar

The grand entrance to the theatre - a relaxed and friendly café and bar open from Monday to Saturday. After hours it is transformed. It has been heaven, it has been hell, a graveyard, a ballroom... what will you turn it into? It is a versatile space, which has hosted receptions, parties, Salsa & Swing balls and even breakfast meetings!

The St James First Floor Gallery

Located on the first floor, this space has played host to some of the most prestigious and imaginative events. Glittering award ceremonies, dinner dances, art exhibitions, product launches, wine tastings, interactive theatresports, cocktail receptions and AGMs.
With large windows overlooking Courtenay Place, the area is open plan and spacious which makes it a perfect catering or trade-stand display area for conferences held in the auditorium. It is also the venue for a changing visual arts programme by Wellington Artists Gallery Trust.

The St James Thrust Stage and Stalls Level Auditorium

The latest addition to The St James Theatre is our innovative orchestra pit lift, which is an extension to the stage. Measuring 3-5 metres deep & 11 metres wide, the pit lift is located in front of the stage curtain and can be hired along with the Stalls level seating for your event. Already it has played host to some of the most exciting and imaginative events - award ceremonies, road-shows, corporate presentations and AGMs. Make your event truly memorable and finish with a spectacular dinner on stage.

The St James Denis Adam Opera Suite

With photographs of recent operatic successes adorning the walls, this room is an intimate space, perfect for board meetings, cocktail parties or pre and post performance suppers. The Denis Adam Opera Suite can also be hired as a break-out room when utilizing the larger rooms at The St James Theatre.

The Opera House Stage & Auditorium

An intimate and welcoming performance space, the Opera House has been a lively venue for successive generations in Wellington. Over the years, it has housed a wide variety of events including public meetings, AGMs and even gala dinners and cocktail receptions on the stage!

The Opera House Dress Circle Foyer

With its stunning architecture and theatrical presence, this venue is an ideal location for dinners and cocktail functions. It has also played host to numerous corporate meetings, with the spectacular structural design lending a unique feel to their classroom set-up.
The Dress Circle Foyer also has the added attraction of a balcony area which overlooks Te Aro Park - perfect for summer entertaining. You can also take full advantage of the Stalls Foyer as a registration or catering area.

Located adjacent to the Dress Circle Foyer, the Balcony Suite features natural lighting and views over a park in central Wellington. Its wonderful for private daytime meetings and pre or post show entertaining. The room can also be hired as a break-out space for larger meetings in the Dress Circle Foyer.
